AVID is a program designed to help underachieving middle and high school students prepare for and succeed in colleges and universities. Students in the program commit themselves to improvement and preparation for college. The AVID program teaches students how to study, read for content, take notes, and manage their time. Each week, students receive two hours of instruction, two hours in tutor led study groups, and one hour in motivational activities and academic survival skills, including critical reading and writing skills. AVID students are encouraged to take prep courses (in middle school) and move into honors/advanced placement courses Eligibility a) 2.0–3.5 GPA b) Teacher and administrator recommendation c) Express commitment to achievement.
